The number of students successfully passing their final ACCA exams has soared to record levels.

Figures show that 6,174 students successfully became ACCA affiliates upon completing their courses – the highest number ever from a single set of exams.

The ACCA examinations in June were taken by a record 164,646 candidates taking a total of 335,566 papers across different levels.

But while the performance of students taking exams at the professional level was in line with expectations, the ACCA said results within the Fundamentals papers were disappointing.

Clare Minchington, ACCA’s managing director - learning and technical policy, said: “The new qualification, launched in 2007, continues to be well received by employers, tuition providers and candidates. To meet the demands of globalised and complex economies, we are committed to ensuring that all our examinations meet the highest standards and provide a thorough testing of our students. We are working closely with a range of partners to facilitate students’ access to the best possible tuition provision and have developed a number of initiatives including “Train the Trainer”, where we share best practice with those who teach accounting to ACCA students around the world”.
